New Year and New Laws in CA

We are nearly halfway through the first month of 2025 and some of us might not be aware of new laws in place. One law that affects California drivers and where they park their cars is Assembly Bill 413.

This bill prohibits vehicles from stopping standing, or parking within 20 feet of the vehicle approach side of any unmarked or marked crosswalk or 15 feet of any crosswalk where a curb extension is present.  What does this mean to the average driver in the Bay Area? This means that extra attention should be paid when parking to grab a cup of coffee in downtown Oakland, dropping off a kid at daycare in Castro Valley, or parking in the city for a concert while trying to avoid parking garages.

Of course there is more to this new law, but essentially it’s a reminder for drivers to park responsibly.
